Integrating the essential elements of lesson study in pre-service mathematics teacher education

A recent doctoral thesis by Levi Elipane explains, through an in-depth case study of a novice teacher, how lesson study is used as a format for teacher practice in Japanese pre-service teacher education. This work is based on empirical studies in Japan, under the direction of prof. H. Fujii of Tokyo Gakugei University, and is of interest to all mathematics teacher educators who seek inspiration for strengthening the links between practical and theoretical elements of the preparation of new mathematics teachers. The thesis was recently submitted and defended at the University of Copenhagen.
